The Extended School Year Program for preschool through high school students in the Westfield Public School District is in its 16th year, with a continued focus on maintaining and strengthening academic skills through the summer to prepare students for the new school year.
Westfield students representing 6 different languages recently enjoyed a weeklong summer camp focused on providing meaningful enrichment activities for students to continue their English language acquisition while having fun.

At the end of each school year, Matthew Cognetti has his students write a letter to themselves. Seven years later, the 5th grade teacher at Washington School mails each letter to each former student as he or she approaches the end of 12th grade.
Fitness, fellowship and fun at Washington and Wilson Elementary Schools, as students in grades 1-5 enjoy Field Day.
A special volunteer at Washington School has been reading to third graders each week for the past 12 years.
Hundreds of students and their families from Westfield Public Schools participated in a recent districtwide community service effort in support of homeless shelters, fighting hunger campaigns, senior citizens, rescue animal organizations, and others in need of charitable help.

At its May 8 meeting, the Westfield Board of Education approved the appointment of Elizabeth Delasandro as Supervisor of K-12 Mathematics and Warren Hynes as Westfield High School Assistant Principal.
